Silicon Beach Talent Launches Advisory Program
A pro-bono program designed to help startups approach hiring strategically to meet their market and fundraising goals
SANTA MONICA, CA, September 12, 2017 – Silicon Beach Talent (SBT) announces a new mentorship program to give talent-related advice to portfolio companies of participating accelerators, incubators and venture capital firms. SBT launches the program with six partners: Make in LA, Amplify, Techstars Los Angeles, Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI), Luma Launch and LightSpeed Innovations. SBT is looking to expand the program and is accepting applications from additional Southern Californian accelerators, incubators and national venture capital firms.
This three-phased program delivers one-on-one strategic consulting sessions that focus on building a talent strategy, approaches to hiring, defining culture and determining hiring priorities. The program was developed and is led by SBT founders, Marissa Peretz and Max Brown. Marissa and Max have scaled many teams in their career, most notably, they were recruiting leaders at Tesla and helped take the company from two hundred employees to thousands.
“Companies that prioritize talent and talent strategies earlier on have a higher probability of success,” said Marissa, SBT co-founder. “We developed this program because we want to see more early stage startups go further. We are teaching startups a long-term approach to talent in order to de-risk their investment.”
The program started as a pilot with Make in LA, a startup accelerator, in 2016. Due to the success of the program, SBT expanded it to include additional accelerators and incubators and will include venture capital firms.
“A little good advice early in a company’s formation can go a long way, but unfortunately so can bad advice” said Max. “One of the most common mistakes we see is that many startups take the concept of bootstrapping too far and turn it into a lifestyle. For us, it’s rewarding to help startups avoid those common early mistakes and help coach them for success.”
SBT is a boutique firm specializing in recruitment in the areas of creative, design, hardware engineering and software engineering for Silicon Beach startups. Not only are they experts in recruiting, they are also angel investors and advisors, which brings a different perspective to their strategy on how to build and scale teams from the ground up.
Marissa and Max launched this mentorship program as a pro-bono initiative because they believe in a long-term “pay it forward” approach to fostering the local startup community. Southern California accelerators, incubators and venture capital firms interested in applying to join the program can contact accelerate[at]siliconbeachtalent.com.
